Mike
shifted to a new place recently which was not his home town. He had to relocate
because his job was transferred from his hometown. Mike was a systems engineer
and completed his schooling and college from his hometown, later on since he
was a systems engineer he got a job in the city of his birth.
He worked around two years at that place,
but because of the current situations he was transferred as he was an efficient
employee. He grew in his designation in the last two years. He received two
promotions and also participated in the board meetings to offer his
suggestions.
Since Mike was brought up in a very
sophisticated manner, he faced a lot of problems while he was transferred. He didn’t
want to move to a new place as he was a bit homesick. But his mother convinced
him to go with a promise that he would also call his parents when he gets settled
down.
He hired a flat for himself which was a two
BHK apartment ion a posh locality as his work was such creative that if he didn’t
stay in a furnished area, his work would suffer. That is his choice was more so
due to his requirement rather than luxury. Anyhow, he began with his work
responsibilities. Initially he dragged himself to the office, but later he
cultivated interest.
He couldn’t leave the job as he also got increment
in his salary. He made new friends at the new office; some were friendly and
some not so. However since he was focused wholeheartedly on the job, he shielded
distractions which others had to face. One of his colleagues developed a great
camaraderie with him and shared all his problems. He also told Mike to ‘go with
the flow’.
In the beginning Mike couldn’t make out the
meaning of the phrase, but later he realized that Sam’s meaning was to’ In
Rome, do what the Romans do’. As he saw Sam behaving with the other employees
of the company in a very friendly manner and completing his work in a definite
time schedule. Mike also started to learn these intricacies from Sam and
treated the distractions as ‘occupational hazard’.
Now Mike was a different personality altogether
and had learnt the mantra of life’ to go with the flow’.
